WIP Wednesday

Hi everyone! Today I'm working on a couple of Go Girl Bags. These are spoken for and I need to get them completed soon. I'm hoping to have them ready to ship by early next week. I'm also getting ahead on painting up some girls for more bags and other projects.

Here's something to think about....I was reading on another blog about etiquette in answering and thanking fellow bloggers after comments are made. I got to thinking about it and am wondering if there is one way that is really right. After all don't we just do what feels right to each of us? One comment I read about this subject was that one of the advantages of the comment section in blogs is to cut down on emails filling our inboxes. Now I don't know about you...but my method of replying to comments is to send a personalized email to the commenter (especially if their email address is known). How do you feel about this? Do you like personalized responses via email or do you prefer to revisit the comments to see if I've replied. Personally I don't like to revisit a comment area as sometimes I forget what I've written on each blog I visit and don't recall if I asked a question....which leads to more time on the internet that is wasted. Please share your thoughts on this subject.

  1. Thanks for raising this question. I would much prefer an answer direct to the comment on the blog itself. As a reader I often see a question I'm also having in mind. It would be so nice to be able to see the anser in public. Probably I'm not the only one so publishing it would give the information even to people who didn't ask for different reasons. Or save the time of the blogger by just writing in one time.
Of course sometimes the information is more private, than why not email?

  2. I like to send and receive personal emails back. I don't go back to the comments area either. If it is something that has been asked a few times, I will create a follow-up post in a day or two.

However, if you are one to reply via comments and not email (or vice versa), you should state it on your blog somewhere so that if someone is expecting a reply to a question, they know where to look again.

  3. Wanted to add one more thing: I don't mind answering multiple emails with the same question - so maybe that is why I prefer the email responses.

  6. Can't wait to see the Go Girl Bags!

You're the only person who emails me replies to my comments. I happen to like the personal reply. Thanks!

  7. I also like the personal reply. but sometimes it´s don´t work! It´s very fun with all comments and to read others blogs, but it takes time! sometimes I feel I sit with the computer more than in my studio!

  8. Love the faces for the bags Terri! Replying to blog comments is a hard one! It's great to reply when the email is easy to find. But, I agree with Gunnels, sometimes you end up spending forever on the computer........ Also, I don't tend to go back to the comments after I've left one, unless I'm really interested in a "conversation" that's going on.

  9. The girls are great and love the chosen colors.
I prefer the emails too, as already stated, because I forget sometimes to revisit a comments section for a reply.
And I know I spend way more time at the computer than in the studio.

  10. Lovely Ladies Terri!

and on the other... I try to respond with an email but I have been known to reply in the comment section as well.

(It's the Yahoo/Flickr groups I have a hard time keeping up with!!!)

  11. Re comments: I don't reply to comments left on my blog, or expect to receive replies to those I leave.
Re questions: I will always try to reply to a question if I can find the email or include answer in a later post.
I agree that sometimes blogging can take up large chunks of time that prevent us creating :)

  13. I was just thinking about this recently. I wondered if people thought me rude for not responding with a Thank You via email for their comments. I just don't have the time to all that...unless someone asks a question or needs information. I think by reciprocating and visiting theri blog is an equally nice wy to say thanks.

  14. this has been an issue for me too. I don't normally respond to comments that are generic "great job" or "I like that" comments. If someone has offered specific advice or asked a question, I will send an e-mail response. I have never commented on my own blog. I do visit the commenters' blogs though!

  15. Re comments: I guess I have done all of the above and probably never do the same thing. I don't really know what is proper. But I like to reciprocate as bluejade said by visiting their blog and sometimes I leave a comment and thank you in the comment. To me, that's how the "networking" spreads. I don't get a whole lot of comments but I guess those who do would never get away from the computer if they responded to each by e-mail. I'm just always appreciative of any comments.

  16. Your ladies are lovely Terri.

As for comments I don''t usually reply personally to them all, though until the last few weeks I never used to get that many. Since joining FAF I have had lots of kind encouragement left on my blog so maybe I should?

  17. I prefer individual emails. It lets me build a relationship that I don't even know exists without the commenting! But if I get questions about the artwork and such, I have decided to start doing a weekly Q & A to answer the questions asked. :) Hope that helps.

  18. This is something that has been bothering me too. Up to now I have tried to reply personally to each comment, but I find it's becoming more and more difficult and time consuming. I always visit the sender's blog if they have one and add a comment there, if i have time, then I will still reply personally. This is how we make new friends on the internet. if all this fails and i am busy trying to do some UFO's then I will say a general word of thanks on my next post and hope they will read it. I must admit I don't go back to comments to check if there's a reply.
