Socks

I started a sock knitting class today.  A new friend of mine mentioned that she had signed up for the class about a week or so ago.  I have always wanted to try socks, and even attempted once on my own, but quickly gave up when I ran into some troubles.  So I signed up too, and today was the first day of class.  We started at the ribbing and this is how far I made it by the end of class.

Our homework is to knit the top of the sock to a length we think we'd like, around five to seven inches.  And then next Saturday, our second day of class, we will learn how to do the heel.  So far I'm having great fun.

  2. Oh wow! your sock looks great so far! I always thought this would be fun to do, and almost bought some sock yarn, but ended up not getting it because I don't really know that much about knitting - just basic stitches. How fun for you to take that class! Cannot wait to see your finished socks.

Looks complicated to the non-knitter here.

  5. I too once tried a pair of socks and gave up as quickly got stuck. What a great idea to try a class, I wonder if I can find one in my local area.

  6. I'm not a knitter so seeing four needles in one project looks very complicated! But they are going to be fun socks!

  7. I started in a sock class two years ago....paid my $40 bucks and the shop closed! I have two sock tops knitted down to the heal...that was suppose to be the next lesson. Most expensive pair of (unfinished) socks I've ever owned. It was a fun class while it lasted.

  10. @Sharon S - The sock class is at a yarn shop in downtown Bismarck. The owner is so generous with helping knitters...I'm sure if you stop by there she'd be happy to assist you.

  11. I love making socks. They are such a good take-along project. I do the double-pointed method, which you are learning. I like it and it works great for me.

Maybe everyone on your gift list will be getting socks this year?
