Anyway, I finally got to it, thread painting, that is. At first I thought I'd try a thread painted flower or leaf or something simple. But no! I had to go for the gusto and try a face.

I was quite happy with how it turned out for a first timer. So then I decided I should create something to showcase my new face. So I made a small art quilt collage. The collage includes Lutradur. The leaf shapes are the Lutradur and they have a translucent quality to them. This material doesn't fray when cut so makes for a perfect edge if you want to add a semi-dimensional item to your quilt surfaces.

And on that note....Happy Weekend! It's a holiday weekend at that.
What a marvelous job you did on your first try at thread painting. Your shading is very well done and picking a face to start with was quite ambitious but you pulled it off!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness Terri - I can't believe that's your first try! It's beautiful. The whole quilt is lovely - and I know exactly what you mean about wanting to try lots of things - that's why I keep taking classes!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to ask - is it all thread, or did you paint it first?
ReplyDeleteI'll never forget my first time thread painting. It was in a class by Nancy Prince quite a few years back. You did an amazing job for your first time out of the gate with it!
ReplyDeleteI love the finished piece. So nice and bright!

ReplyDeleteTerri, Your work is so beautiful, and you never cease to amaze me with the breadth of your talent. This is an incredible first piece piece with a technique like thread painting. On another note, I know you just started a new class on mixed media collage, but wondered if you know when you will offer it again. I am gone most of the first two weeks in June and just don't have the time to do a class like this justice.
