Progress

This is the latest progress on the second board book shown yesterday.

painted board book face
A couple of you were wondering how I had prepared the pages before adding the gesso. I didn't do a thing to them, just started slathering it on. After I was about half-way into each book with gesso, I did start having inner conversations with myself and wondered if I should have scuffed up the pages just a bit before gessoing. So at this point I'm considering this an experiment. If anyone out there has done this before, please tell how you went about preparing your board book pages, scuff or no scuff.

  1. I've scuffed and not scuffed! Both seem to work well.
I have also scuffed and painted - no gesso. That looks patchy but I like it and it looks interesting with the underneath peeping through ;0)

I love that face. She looks like she is saying "OH Hello!"

  2. looks great from here. Hard to see any need for more scuffing. What will you put on the inside?

  5. She's gorgeous Terri!! Thanks for the answer to "scuff or no scuff". I suppose it's a bit of trial and error and what sort of texture you want.

  6. I'm far too lazy and impatient to scuff. I much prefer to gesso and paint. :) This is great. I love the color in this book. And, as always, your face is awesome!

  7. Your book looks great. I'm currently taking part in an altered board book round robin, but none of them look this good.

  8. This book and the one from the previous post are wonderful Terri. You've managed to make a treasure from something that cost you very little. Well done.
