Twelve by Twelve - Eggplant Reveal

Today is reveal day for our Eggplant color play challenge. Visit the group blog to see the reveal as everyone shares their results throughout the day.

I actually made two quilts this round, and while I've sort of chosen the first one shown here as my submission, I'm really up to changing my mind if everyone claimed the other quilt as the better choice.

The Three Leaves of Eggplant

Eggplant Rings

You can read more details about these two quilts on the group blog and perhaps you'll chime in over there with your vote.

Oh and in case you are wondering...we usually reveal our quilts on the first of the month but we decided to wait until today (Jan 12) because of the busy-ness of the holiday season.

  1. Terri, I just came over from the group blog, and wanted to say how amazing I find these to be. You must have had a lot of fun experimenting with the new techniques. There was so much new stuff, I wondered are there any particular aspects of these that might find their way into your other work? Some part that you really liked doing?

  3. Love the first one!! It's you and you found a perfect way to deal with a difficult challenge. I think it would be a wonderful quilt to have hanging whereas the other would be tough to find a spot for.

  4. LEAVES! hands down. So graphic and I luv the mosaic look.
The second is too blurry, blotchy and somehow unsettling. Not a bad thing but I guess I'm for clear and crisp.

  5. Agree with elle - unsettling is a good word! the leaves are 'settling' without being at all trite or predictable. The initial reaction of graphic simplicity leads to some great surprises as the eye notices first one of the mosaic fabrics, then another.....

  6. I'm drawn to the order and simplicity of the first one too. Great work again, Terri!

  7. I really like the first one. It makes more of a statement. It is graphically, very elegant.

  8. Wow, these are such a departure from your usual work. I really like them both but I am a sucker for leaves and nature so that one gets my vote for your submission. The other one is so unique that I think this style is worth exploring.

    Great job!

  9. these are INCREDIBLE. I love the clean design of the first one and the layers of color in the second one are wonderful. :)

  10. They are both great and unique but I too really like the simplicity of the first one. And of course I really like leaves.

  11. I too agree with the first one, gorgeous! The second one too is beautiful. I think the 'unsettling' aspect is one of its draws, pulling the viewer back to see what is happening and why it evokes this feeling. I think the shift and change in colors make this a compelling design.

  12. I love reading the comments. It is interesting to see what each viewer sees and feels especially when comparing two pieces.

I like them both. They are like apples and oranges. I love graphic designs so the leaf one is wonderful for that, however the rings keeps my attention and I find i spend more time looking at it and all the sections and the way it moves in and out. Rubbing the rings with the white shiva stick is amazing in how it altered the ring.

  13. I like them both for different reasons... the first one looks more true to your style, but I really like the direction you took in the second... Love them both!

  14. Both are so different and fabulous it will be hard to choose just one. I am heading over to group blog now and somehow will vote. Hmmm...

  15. I am with Barbara (L.) on this one: i like each one for different reasons. It was amusing too to read how much trouble some people had with this color combo. Not "amusing" bad but just interesting how much difference colors can make in how you feel about creating something.

  16. I like them both -- I love the simplicity of the leaves, but the sheer graphic power of the second one is really compelling. Nice work!

  17. I like the first one better too. It is more you, and I like the simplicity of the shapes. Love the background too.
