Woo hoo! I'm feeling pretty good that I've finished this quilt. Okay, well almost. All I have left is the label and hanging sleeve.
I am trying to think of a name for it. So far all that comes to mind is Regal Beauty or Well Trained. Any ideas? The size of this quilt is 42" high by 38.25" wide.
Here are some detail shots.
When I first planned this quilt I had thought I would add some painted details after it was quilted. But I decided not to on this one.
Again, I would like to give a big shout of thanks to Flickr user italsma13 for granting me permission to use her photo as inspiration for this quilt. Without her beautiful dog, Solo, and the great photography, this would have been a much harder task for me. Now I can't wait to hear what my husband's aunt and uncle think about it.
Now I really need to get cracking on my 12" x 12" quilt for the Twelve by Twelve group. It's due May 1.....pretty darn soon.

"Good Dog" or "Good Boy" appeals to me. Terry, he's adorable. :D
ReplyDeleteThis turned out fabulous Terri! I know how hard it is to work with a black subject, but you've done a great job of capturing the dog's likeness. I especially love the eyes. I don't have a suggestion for a name, although I do like Regal Beauty.
ReplyDeleteThe eyes are amazing! Black labs are my favorite dog breed. Since this is based on a photo of Solo and since labs are the very best companions, how about "Never Solo" or "Solo But Not Alone" or something like that.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! How about "Woodhouse Graduate" (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Woodhouse?wasRedirected=true) as he looks so well trained.
ReplyDeleteWonderful piece, Terri! My first thought was also "Good Dog!" He looks so open and eager. The eyes are SO nicely done!
ReplyDeleteLove it. Absolutely love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not great with coming up with cute names. And I do love it when a quilt has a cute name. But, I'll share what comes to mind "Doesn't Bark".

Fabulous Terri! Those eyes really give the puppy life.
ReplyDeleteHE's so cute-well done.
ReplyDeleteThis is just perfect. I used to have a black Lab named Kelly and he was a
ReplyDeletegreat dog. Using Retriever in the name would be good.
Fantastic job on his face which just keeps you looking.
it's terrific Terri! I might have to commission you to do ones of all my dogs too :)
ReplyDeletehow about "best friend"

ReplyDeleteI love it Terri! It's oh so cute! Black Beauty was the first thing that popped into my mind for a name.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful quilt terri. It looks just like our beloved Ace.
ReplyDeleteThe details are amazing and the eyes so life like. I'm liking 'Good Dog'!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely perfect - such an expressive portrait!
ReplyDeleteWell done!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with "Good Dog!" It reminds me very much of a gorgeous Labrador I once took care of for 18 months while his owner was in the army.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Terri!
ReplyDeleteLove your work. I think "Loyalty" would be a good name.
ReplyDeleteI really like this one - what a cute dog! and your attention to detail is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Terri. Is the background pieced? This makes me want to get going on my own dog project!
ReplyDeleteI really think you captured the dog's eyes, They look so alert and the dog is so real looking. I also like "Black Beauty".

He's gorgeous, Terri! You simply HAVE to call him, "Woman's Best Friend."

I don't know bout a name, but he has this look, like, "What, you mean I can't go on vacation with you?
ReplyDeleteSuch an expressive face you've given him.....I could come up with a million titles like that in no time. *S*
Good job!
How about "Throw the ball, already!". Isn't that what's on every Lab's mind?
ReplyDeleteWow, just gorgeous Terri! For name I'd probably go with 'Solo'.
ReplyDeleteNice Job, Terri. I love all those blacks!
ReplyDeleteYour black labrador is beautiful, and the eyes are so realistic! Only wish I could see it up close and in person:-)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love his eyes and I am so impressed that you didn't use any paint. I am trying to learn and do more quilts like this, but I have no inclination to use paint. This is a very handsome portrait of this lab and the the most beautiful eyes I have seen rendered in fabric. Thank you for posting those pictures.
