Here Birdy!

I've completed another birdhouse. Well actually I've had this one done for probably about a month now, but Bob finally got around to putting the metal hanging device on it for me. Now it will have to be put away until next spring when all the little birdies come back to find homes for their new families.

I pyroengraved the details on the gourd, then I applied color with watered down acrylic paints so they are more transparent. Once the paint was dry I sealed it with a marine varnish.

  1. This is fantastic, Terri! I love it! I'd never seen this done with gourds before this year, and now I see them everywhere (online, that is)! You have decorated this one so beautifully - could you not sell them in your Etsy store? I'd love one! :) Is there a special way to prepare the gourd? I might have a go myself...

  2. Terri, this is gorgeous. I can just picture a little bird peeking out the flower!! It would look lovely hanging next to my new "Hippie Herb Garden" .....

  6. I agree with what ml said. I would like to live there if I were a bird too. I have seen so many things done with gourds now. I have never seen one and don't even know what they are. I shall have to Google it to find out.

  7. Lovely bird house, Terri. I'm glad you mentioned the Marine varnish. My DH bought a decorative gourd a few years back and it must not have been properly sealed because after a few months it started to get moldy. Yuck!

  8. Love your birdhouse. But I don't know what "pyroengraved" is. I guess it is like wood burning but what tool did you use?
