This is my current method of doing them but not the only one I have used.<br />
<br />
All of the photos below were taken while making a set of straps for a recent bag and while the fabrics look slightly different in some photos, they are indeed the same. Different lighting and my camera sometimes alters the colors on me.<br />
<br />
<b>Tab Connectors</b><br />
<br />
Materials:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Heavyweight stabilizer, cut 4 pieces 7/8" x 3" (I am using Stiffy by <a href="http://www.longcreekmills.com/">www.longcreekmills.com</a>) (Pellon Peltex is another option)</li>
<li>Four 1" D-rings</li>
<li>Fabric with fusible web applied to wrong side (I use <a href="http://www.mistyfuse.com/" target="_blank">Mistyfuse</a> fusible web), cut 4 pieces 2 3/4" x 3 3/4"</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OAZypH3YeOU/WJC07vvCPHI/AAAAAAAAURA/BY2Fz3tLNA0qQDoIHcO186QqXRbdCFE1gCLcB/s1600/DSC_2521.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OAZypH3YeOU/WJC07vvCPHI/AAAAAAAAURA/BY2Fz3tLNA0qQDoIHcO186QqXRbdCFE1gCLcB/s400/DSC_2521.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Center the stabilizer on the wrong side of a fabric piece.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HHm3BQ6CYq4/WJC07pLKshI/AAAAAAAAURE/Israsu3PdKkSiLMeAscnwOus7VKW_ywqwCLcB/s1600/DSC_2525.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="336" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HHm3BQ6CYq4/WJC07pLKshI/AAAAAAAAURE/Israsu3PdKkSiLMeAscnwOus7VKW_ywqwCLcB/s400/DSC_2525.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fold the left and right side over and press with your iron to fuse in place.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--5KgeUImewQ/WJC07jZmpzI/AAAAAAAAURI/r3wXKjB3rSoiaTafRq9TGDO0Ex-23cxBwCLcB/s1600/DSC_2527.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="386" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--5KgeUImewQ/WJC07jZmpzI/AAAAAAAAURI/r3wXKjB3rSoiaTafRq9TGDO0Ex-23cxBwCLcB/s400/DSC_2527.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fold up the bottom side and press with your iron.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qfBrHoTRuUQ/WJC07wQZHzI/AAAAAAAAURM/AkZ5TIUYdd816vn9W5nbF7FzHHv_ZaYGQCLcB/s1600/DSC_2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="286" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qfBrHoTRuUQ/WJC07wQZHzI/AAAAAAAAURM/AkZ5TIUYdd816vn9W5nbF7FzHHv_ZaYGQCLcB/s400/DSC_2529.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fold the remaining side and press. Repeat with the remaining pieces.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jAP6zHC-SSU/WJC0700OI7I/AAAAAAAAURQ/F0KJFStgN_8AqDSvj3V_GwnwwirPqCuCACLcB/s1600/DSC_2531.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="202" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jAP6zHC-SSU/WJC0700OI7I/AAAAAAAAURQ/F0KJFStgN_8AqDSvj3V_GwnwwirPqCuCACLcB/s400/DSC_2531.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fold the fabric covered stabilizer in half and place through a D-ring.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xcyyOldZ6Iw/WJC071LSXuI/AAAAAAAAURU/KDnAN_qKrFo4J8WhxF_Rewrqgwnq5oX6wCLcB/s1600/DSC_2561.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xcyyOldZ6Iw/WJC071LSXuI/AAAAAAAAURU/KDnAN_qKrFo4J8WhxF_Rewrqgwnq5oX6wCLcB/s400/DSC_2561.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Using the zipper foot on your sewing machine, sew across the fabric just below the D-ring. Don't sew too tightly against the D-ring as you want the D-ring to have some wiggle room.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BJr91Z96e1c/WJC08NglICI/AAAAAAAAURY/RPlyW_5yvv0puxLAxuzOPux1R3LI74lbACLcB/s1600/DSC_2566.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BJr91Z96e1c/WJC08NglICI/AAAAAAAAURY/RPlyW_5yvv0puxLAxuzOPux1R3LI74lbACLcB/s400/DSC_2566.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Apply the connector tabs to the handbag. I mark on my bag where the tabs go and then align the tab to that mark. Place the tab over the edge of the bag with one side of the tab on the inside of the bag and the other side of the tab on the outside of the bag. The tab straddles the edge of the bag. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3EUo3p2DF1M/WJC08C7X0VI/AAAAAAAAURg/4ST_2zZUUpYBW-95ba6IvIb2O_Xb7PXRACLcB/s1600/DSC_2567.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3EUo3p2DF1M/WJC08C7X0VI/AAAAAAAAURg/4ST_2zZUUpYBW-95ba6IvIb2O_Xb7PXRACLcB/s400/DSC_2567.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I usually push the tab so it is as far down along the edge of bag as it will go. Clip or pin in place.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6dro_jOOs44/WJC08PeGYtI/AAAAAAAAURc/XIFQJfpM6xsb9ynkj85JJT50F5xYR3EewCLcB/s1600/DSC_2568.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6dro_jOOs44/WJC08PeGYtI/AAAAAAAAURc/XIFQJfpM6xsb9ynkj85JJT50F5xYR3EewCLcB/s400/DSC_2568.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sew the tab to the bag body. I use my zipper foot for this step but you don't have to (stitching on the right side of the foot).</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FXFbDCRtQgA/WJC08F1jMnI/AAAAAAAAURk/MKK-0IsHqZM5-WNl-HRsiQ2y1btwDF-jgCLcB/s1600/DSC_2569.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FXFbDCRtQgA/WJC08F1jMnI/AAAAAAAAURk/MKK-0IsHqZM5-WNl-HRsiQ2y1btwDF-jgCLcB/s400/DSC_2569.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then sew another line of stitching near the bottom of the tab still using my zipper foot but moving my needle position to the opposite side (stitching on the left side of the foot).</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PV3kaGdeE7U/WJC08Z6Uy7I/AAAAAAAAURs/gQk8Yi2PAdQYyhWgWOtAOCt5RXa3EnmFQCLcB/s1600/DSC_2574.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PV3kaGdeE7U/WJC08Z6Uy7I/AAAAAAAAURs/gQk8Yi2PAdQYyhWgWOtAOCt5RXa3EnmFQCLcB/s400/DSC_2574.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Repeat with the remaining tabs, two tabs per bag side. At this point the tabs are done but I usually add a little bling with a rivet. This is optional. Set the bag aside for now.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nsH1yypy9wA/WJC08dr7IbI/AAAAAAAAURo/dHSBnv4PjP87vWzIJExTI0uJdUyrxDUEwCLcB/s1600/DSC_2577.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="346" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nsH1yypy9wA/WJC08dr7IbI/AAAAAAAAURo/dHSBnv4PjP87vWzIJExTI0uJdUyrxDUEwCLcB/s400/DSC_2577.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Straps</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Materials</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Fabric, cut two strips 3 1/2" x 24"</li>
<li>1" wide Polypro webbing strap (or similar strap material), cut two 22" (color doesn't matter as it won't show)</li>
</ul>
<div>
A note of caution: if you are using Polypro, polyester, or nylon strap material, be sure to use caution when ironing around it as it will melt if your iron is set too high.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1eMEWplW4wo/WJC7ZV_-dSI/AAAAAAAAUSI/4uYoxwFOZWMWR4kvT_TrHDWkl2NX-lIsACLcB/s1600/DSC_2516.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="207" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1eMEWplW4wo/WJC7ZV_-dSI/AAAAAAAAUSI/4uYoxwFOZWMWR4kvT_TrHDWkl2NX-lIsACLcB/s400/DSC_2516.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mark a line along one long edge of both fabric strips, 3/4" from the edge on the wrong side. I use an air fading purple fabric marker.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZsnylLz3co8/WJC7ZkrYcnI/AAAAAAAAUS4/qh4C2igac3YWd4P3mvcylRuQNwmJoAjewCEw/s1600/DSC_2550.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="347" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZsnylLz3co8/WJC7ZkrYcnI/AAAAAAAAUS4/qh4C2igac3YWd4P3mvcylRuQNwmJoAjewCEw/s400/DSC_2550.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fold over the raw edge to meet the line and press to form a 3/8" hem.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ijnmbf2UuVk/WJC7ZRUbwrI/AAAAAAAAUSM/MxYVQgJrawAfkHkLeoyqqVIG4Zda_l3xwCLcB/s1600/DSC_2539.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ijnmbf2UuVk/WJC7ZRUbwrI/AAAAAAAAUSM/MxYVQgJrawAfkHkLeoyqqVIG4Zda_l3xwCLcB/s400/DSC_2539.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Place the webbing strap on the wrong side of the fabric, on the edge opposite the hem, centered between the two ends.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Uro_4N-OF20/WJC7ZUJ4rKI/AAAAAAAAUSE/2P8Xrm9vWd0tXs5-p7GU2YMCPlP_vTB5ACLcB/s1600/DSC_2541.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="98" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Uro_4N-OF20/WJC7ZUJ4rKI/AAAAAAAAUSE/2P8Xrm9vWd0tXs5-p7GU2YMCPlP_vTB5ACLcB/s400/DSC_2541.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fold the ends over and pin.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5qmoiE7iXRE/WJC7ZrOCwlI/AAAAAAAAUSY/8ammzl7dmWgGkDU0f3zqaaobaq2hgBmTgCLcB/s1600/DSC_2553.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="341" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5qmoiE7iXRE/WJC7ZrOCwlI/AAAAAAAAUSY/8ammzl7dmWgGkDU0f3zqaaobaq2hgBmTgCLcB/s400/DSC_2553.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stitch the webbing to the fabric using a 1/4" seam allowance, keeping the edges aligned and the ends folded over.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eBmzFGqGzFA/WJC7Zwjzy6I/AAAAAAAAUSc/01uWG_pLe9cY3zh8vqRV1YJEyGpIzQovQCLcB/s1600/DSC_2555.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="388" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eBmzFGqGzFA/WJC7Zwjzy6I/AAAAAAAAUSc/01uWG_pLe9cY3zh8vqRV1YJEyGpIzQovQCLcB/s400/DSC_2555.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fold the strap over as shown in the following photo. I sometimes use a fabric glue stick and run a line of glue along the webbing (before folding it over) to hold it in place on the fabric. You want to be sure the fabric and strap are nice and tight with no loose areas.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--pXGqghwlF4/WJC7ZwRgoOI/AAAAAAAAUSg/M26eBvd1JXU5wPpgiuTi-z9CRbjMg2YBACLcB/s1600/DSC_2559.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--pXGqghwlF4/WJC7ZwRgoOI/AAAAAAAAUSg/M26eBvd1JXU5wPpgiuTi-z9CRbjMg2YBACLcB/s400/DSC_2559.jpg" width="356" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fold the remaining edge of fabric over and pin or glue to hold in place. The hem you pressed in the first step should be right at or near the edge of the strap.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oeZaZJyIDTo/WJC7Z6WAIaI/AAAAAAAAUSk/GdU2c-GKcmEyZ-AWU5v8h5iihriSLFfUQCLcB/s1600/DSC_2560.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oeZaZJyIDTo/WJC7Z6WAIaI/AAAAAAAAUSk/GdU2c-GKcmEyZ-AWU5v8h5iihriSLFfUQCLcB/s400/DSC_2560.jpg" width="383" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Topstitch around the entire strap. Do this with both straps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tlFA8ounHVw/WJC7ZoZ-nuI/AAAAAAAAUS4/_TkRyVV3n9kLJHFRHeKs949T_gBZN9LbgCEw/s1600/DSC_2548.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="158" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tlFA8ounHVw/WJC7ZoZ-nuI/AAAAAAAAUS4/_TkRyVV3n9kLJHFRHeKs949T_gBZN9LbgCEw/s400/DSC_2548.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Place one strap end through the D-ring on your bag.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eOQh_q1yGcU/WJC7aEx-H_I/AAAAAAAAUSo/PBbRDamtDW8V0OpQrMPFHm4X7qMePaILQCLcB/s1600/DSC_2580.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eOQh_q1yGcU/WJC7aEx-H_I/AAAAAAAAUSo/PBbRDamtDW8V0OpQrMPFHm4X7qMePaILQCLcB/s400/DSC_2580.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fold the strap end and pin or clip. I fold my straps at a one-inch measurement.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-alzviW_BfVk/WJC7aIJVBxI/AAAAAAAAUSs/f3qcuaPiDcoD63Y1G_e4Y1YPrNYSLst5wCLcB/s1600/DSC_2583.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-alzviW_BfVk/WJC7aIJVBxI/AAAAAAAAUSs/f3qcuaPiDcoD63Y1G_e4Y1YPrNYSLst5wCLcB/s400/DSC_2583.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I forgot to take a photo of when I was stitching the strap end, but I again use my zipper foot and stitch along the end of the strap to secure, usually right along the same stitching line where it is topstitched.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Take the other strap end and place through the D-ring on the same side of the bag. Measure a one-inch fold and sew the end to secure. Repeat with the remaining strap on the other side of the bag.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KmQwKGX0AMM/WJC7aDGqUeI/AAAAAAAAUSw/NgQnpIZVIS8xvHUjjYOpeQnIOY_zbDh8gCLcB/s1600/DSC_2587.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KmQwKGX0AMM/WJC7aDGqUeI/AAAAAAAAUSw/NgQnpIZVIS8xvHUjjYOpeQnIOY_zbDh8gCLcB/s400/DSC_2587.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And with that, I have a completed handbag.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GkeT7fke6_U/WJDBOUHJ43I/AAAAAAAAUTI/qRGo7iVxgLEBlBFcTsqQVpw9EaKXWRhfgCLcB/s1600/DSC_2589.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GkeT7fke6_U/WJDBOUHJ43I/AAAAAAAAUTI/qRGo7iVxgLEBlBFcTsqQVpw9EaKXWRhfgCLcB/s400/DSC_2589.jpg" width="321" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you don't wish to use Polypro strap material, you can create your straps using the double fold method and use a stabilizer/interfacing of your choice to add body to your strap.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope you enjoyed my tutorial. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments. </div>

This line of fabric is a gorgeous quality, solid colored line that is grown and made right in the USA. It can't get better than that!<br />
<br />
There are three new fabrics coming out and they are perfect for all that I do. But then again, the solid colors they offer are perfect too, because they are the ones that I screen print my own designs onto. But, if you happen to be a dyer and printer and want something that is ready to design with, then you will like the new offerings.<br />
<br />
The three new fabrics are:<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><b style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">AMB PFP cotton</b><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"> is fabric Prepared for Printing. Fabric is free of finishing and treated in a way to let inks immerse the fibers in color during the printing process. For the tech-savvy artist wanting to transform their digital creations into fabric works of art!</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;"><b style="color: #222222;">AMB PFD cotton</b><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"> </span><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">is fabric Prepared for Dyeing. No starches, sizing, or finishes applied to the fabric, allowing dyes and paints to saturate the fibers. Perfect for dyeing, batiking, fabric painting, block printing, and all types of textile art media. Let this fabric serve as a blank canvas to unleash your inner Picasso!</span></span></li>
<li><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><b>AMB Natural Muslin</b></span></span></li>
</ol>
<div>
<span style="color: #222222;">Here is what I did with my piece of PFD cotton. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #222222;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eKCq2s1vfSA/WCSnv-0Vt4I/AAAAAAAAUKc/_3-0f36xJRUaBBbhHIYRvUYGEMoKBcS5QCEw/s1600/DSC_2486.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="307" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eKCq2s1vfSA/WCSnv-0Vt4I/AAAAAAAAUKc/_3-0f36xJRUaBBbhHIYRvUYGEMoKBcS5QCEw/s400/DSC_2486.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I first dyed the PFD cotton with an orange fiber reactive dye. The color came out brilliant and gorgeous. Next I used textile paint to add some stenciled leaves to the surface. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UA27iKE8FFQ/WCSnv7JWccI/AAAAAAAAUKY/bRU6WdPjoAUpeqs-3fUk_0u80lBXEH9WgCLcB/s1600/DSC_2476.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="208" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UA27iKE8FFQ/WCSnv7JWccI/AAAAAAAAUKY/bRU6WdPjoAUpeqs-3fUk_0u80lBXEH9WgCLcB/s400/DSC_2476.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to split my piece of PFP fabric in two so I could print two designs on it. For the first design shown, I used one of my Thermofax screen designs, another leaf design, and screened an avocado green color over the surface.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nNa-QGikobY/WCSoVOAPCPI/AAAAAAAAUKg/ynSuJ7hHCfswNYH-mazTRFR0Bhh_YKMOQCLcB/s1600/DSC_2488.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="332" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nNa-QGikobY/WCSoVOAPCPI/AAAAAAAAUKg/ynSuJ7hHCfswNYH-mazTRFR0Bhh_YKMOQCLcB/s400/DSC_2488.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the other piece of PFP fabric, I used one of my compressed sponge shapes. Yes, another leaf design (I must have been in a leafy mood). I sponged on textile paint in a teal color.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wIT7La_M9Nk/WCSoVTdjl4I/AAAAAAAAUKk/ICQZiaSzUGk02iUW12ej1TajHrNCALaAgCEw/s1600/DSC_2493.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="243" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wIT7La_M9Nk/WCSoVTdjl4I/AAAAAAAAUKk/ICQZiaSzUGk02iUW12ej1TajHrNCALaAgCEw/s400/DSC_2493.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WTKNfDnqybE/WCSoVSN27uI/AAAAAAAAUKo/fbJ_fJrhJhoaVvUs9HlJyc-_LGZ-_FiLACEw/s1600/DSC_2478.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WTKNfDnqybE/WCSoVSN27uI/AAAAAAAAUKo/fbJ_fJrhJhoaVvUs9HlJyc-_LGZ-_FiLACEw/s400/DSC_2478.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And for the final fabric, the natural muslin, I again used a Thermofax screen to create a fabric that has a stripe pattern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nNfT_-mJ1Mk/WCSpXsfzEGI/AAAAAAAAUK0/VonNrQ3uSIcxsoKfsj69EwN4QRUERgmsACLcB/s1600/DSC_2491.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nNfT_-mJ1Mk/WCSpXsfzEGI/AAAAAAAAUK0/VonNrQ3uSIcxsoKfsj69EwN4QRUERgmsACLcB/s400/DSC_2491.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xNNQcUqCX-o/WCSpXxvjrMI/AAAAAAAAUK4/girezukLv78ei8650Bs0TgMq0CGjwDkxgCEw/s1600/DSC_2480.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xNNQcUqCX-o/WCSpXxvjrMI/AAAAAAAAUK4/girezukLv78ei8650Bs0TgMq0CGjwDkxgCEw/s400/DSC_2480.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once the four pieces of fabric were finished I pulled some of my other printed AMB fabrics from my stash and created a small collection.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eqh8gFfeDJo/WCSpqEjxnKI/AAAAAAAAUK8/7X-SK92mPtQh6Y3GL466p9EuOWQbKgHWgCLcB/s1600/DSC_2482.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="171" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eqh8gFfeDJo/WCSpqEjxnKI/AAAAAAAAUK8/7X-SK92mPtQh6Y3GL466p9EuOWQbKgHWgCLcB/s400/DSC_2482.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This collection called to me to make something so I decided to create a small quilt. I made an improv quilt block with a wonky plus design and then repeated the same block in a smaller size for the border.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gh6A-inimOo/WCSpqNGfSUI/AAAAAAAAULA/G5n1jSGuhqc9Nm-CltQGxI782jWDxG9BwCLcB/s1600/DSC_2505.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="392" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gh6A-inimOo/WCSpqNGfSUI/AAAAAAAAULA/G5n1jSGuhqc9Nm-CltQGxI782jWDxG9BwCLcB/s400/DSC_2505.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am very impressed that AMB has added these new fabrics to their line. I love using the AMB solids with my screen printing and now I can add these new fabrics to my stash so I can have an even larger variety of options when I want to create unique and original fabrics for my projects.</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y9WTGTSI8LA/V_qABtBNHjI/AAAAAAAAUHg/AD18oqyDgr05ahkkT1cGUnYPCMYlUuc5ACLcB/s1600/Oct2016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y9WTGTSI8LA/V_qABtBNHjI/AAAAAAAAUHg/AD18oqyDgr05ahkkT1cGUnYPCMYlUuc5ACLcB/s1600/Oct2016.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And I also realized that I neglected to share here, on the blog, the new stencils I added in August. So here those are:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7lyzC9Cx07E/V_qAEMA3UQI/AAAAAAAAUHk/nMQzpzxStBctJTHLyTVRyhsZvgjXhpNmgCLcB/s1600/Aug2016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7lyzC9Cx07E/V_qAEMA3UQI/AAAAAAAAUHk/nMQzpzxStBctJTHLyTVRyhsZvgjXhpNmgCLcB/s1600/Aug2016.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope you enjoy these designs as much as I did when I created them. You will find these stencils and more in my Etsy shop, <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/TerriStegmillerArt" target="_blank">click here</a>.</div>

Last month I got one of those exciting emails....you know....the kind where you find out you are accepted into a juried show/event? This quilt, Purrfectly Patterned, was accepted to exhibit with <span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 20.79px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><i>"Patterns", the 2016 Dinner at Eight Artists exhibition</i>, which will debut at the Houston International Quilt Festival this fall.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 20.79px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 20.79px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The quilt was made to a theme of "patterns" and it is 40" square. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I designed some new 12" x 24" stencils for StencilGirl a few months ago and today they are now available. I love working with these larger stencils. They work so well with painting on large pieces of fabric. The following samples are painted on cotton duck fabric and can be used for any number of sewing projects.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ipKMVtTYDUk/V2vNC-iy64I/AAAAAAAATjQ/VB2Yn0G51cc6gcNTXk2kVeXNCPMLjdArACLcB/s1600/Stegmiller1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ipKMVtTYDUk/V2vNC-iy64I/AAAAAAAATjQ/VB2Yn0G51cc6gcNTXk2kVeXNCPMLjdArACLcB/s400/Stegmiller1.jpg" width="316" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QCZpzZfPv1c/V2vNDInId3I/AAAAAAAATjU/xxJKQqwboigtCYLsqEO1RLwnoyiHHEs5QCLcB/s1600/Stegmiller2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QCZpzZfPv1c/V2vNDInId3I/AAAAAAAATjU/xxJKQqwboigtCYLsqEO1RLwnoyiHHEs5QCLcB/s400/Stegmiller2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yUGDsCR9Mrs/V2vND2XOMXI/AAAAAAAATjc/8NhTzt2P6mYI2IURkasjAZj1osMbReYAwCLcB/s1600/Stegmiller3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yUGDsCR9Mrs/V2vND2XOMXI/AAAAAAAATjc/8NhTzt2P6mYI2IURkasjAZj1osMbReYAwCLcB/s400/Stegmiller3.jpg" width="325" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I paint on fabric that will be sewn into a pillow cover, tote bag, or whatever, I like to use textile paints as they have a softer hand when dry and that makes for an ideal sewing experience.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The following table runner was hemmed before I painted and then I used artist acrylic paints and finished off with a coat of water-based varnish to make a surface that is easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth if needed.</div>

I had one in the past and it sort of fizzled out. So here I go again. All new newsletter list, all new information. I will be sending the first one out before the end of June, date not yet determined. But I'm working on it...yay!<br />
<br />
If you would like to sign up to receive my newsletter, I welcome you to do so. You can follow this link to my website: <a href="http://terristegmiller.com/newsletter/" rel="nofollow" style="background-color: white; color: #365899; cursor: pointer; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px;" target="_blank">http://terristegmiller.com/newsletter/</a>, or there is a sign up area in the side bar of my blog.<br />
<br />
I plan to send one out once a month and there will also be a fun little bonus for all who are currently subscribing. I plan to randomly draw a subscriber email from the list and post it in each newsletter. If the owner of that email contacts me they will be the lucky winner of a scrap pack of fabrics that I hand printed and/or hand dyed.<br />
<br />
And just because I love to share photos here on the blog, following is a series of photos of a handbag I made last week. This bag is actually for me as I was desperately in need of a new bag.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cute little story...As I was working on this bag it dawned on me that all the exterior fabrics are ones that I dyed and/or painted and printed. The only commercial fabric is a batik with dots that I used as the inside lining. I asked hubby what he thought of my new bag and his comment..."I like the dot fabric on the inside." (Insert eye roll here) Yes, that's a hubby for you. They really have no clue. I didn't tell him either.</div>

I have always loved the look of hand quilting or hand stitching. The simple running stitch is my favorite and I feel like it has become more popular as I feel like I see it everywhere.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I thought I would take a piece of fabric I had dyed using a stencil and outline the shapes. The piece you see below was not quite finished at the time the photo was taken but I've since finished the hand stitching. It currently is waiting for me to finish it. It will become a pillow cover.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T2pkSaBLeSA/V1xWNcdAnYI/AAAAAAAATgo/Qriglmljrusa4-PdWvLUbvR5JgQlE3ZeQCLcB/s1600/IMG_0281.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T2pkSaBLeSA/V1xWNcdAnYI/AAAAAAAATgo/Qriglmljrusa4-PdWvLUbvR5JgQlE3ZeQCLcB/s1600/IMG_0281.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is another project I am currently working on and I'm again stitching with the running stitch. I love the silk scarves you see with the Kantha stitches running through the fabrics so I thought I'd try this out with some silk sari fabric I have in my stash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6v1BvDcUlLI/V1xWRE3JiDI/AAAAAAAATgw/eC4jNGO5-ZwvrG-7x4Q4Bx0GJLU4zl0vACLcB/s1600/IMG_0284.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6v1BvDcUlLI/V1xWRE3JiDI/AAAAAAAATgw/eC4jNGO5-ZwvrG-7x4Q4Bx0GJLU4zl0vACLcB/s1600/IMG_0284.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
And below are a couple of scenes from my garden. We have had some unusually hot weather the past couple of days. I must say this has been an extremely weird year for us, weather-wise. We had a very early spring and now we are getting weather that we should normally get later in the summer. My garden perennials are growing like they are on steroids. I have never seen everything look so lush and full of blooms.<br />
<br />

Many of you took advantage of the discount I offered in my Etsy shop and I appreciate that with all my heart. Here's to keeping up with blogging.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I do find blogging to be a bit more challenging these days, especially with fast and easy posting that one can do on Instagram and Facebook with a smartphone. I am writing this post with a new app on my phone and I hope it proves to be a useful tool.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So what have I been doing for the past month? Well I worked on some projects with deadlines. A couple of which I can't share here yet but sometime next month I can.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_6d8b_7ae7_94e2_fd14" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OJkI5MpRg2U/V1CIwXWfCCI/AAAAAAAATds/yRuywY56A2s/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This art quilt was one I made and it is my donation to <a href="http://saqa.com/" id="id_b56_4c6e_bc40_d969">SAQA</a> for their annual benefit auction held this fall. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_121c_ccae_2b06_92c" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5tE1FmLcqsQ/V1CIxUwOXQI/AAAAAAAATdw/Z9pDzbzhj0A/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've been working in my garden a lot lately and enjoying the fresh fragrances around me. Gardening and getting priority projects completed have kept me from doing my screen printing but I'm hoping to get back to that soon.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Happy June to you!</div>

I'm so happy to share with you that I have gotten my fat quarter bundles listed in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/TerriStegmillerArt" target="_blank">my Etsy shop</a>. It feels good to have met that goal. Thanks for looking. Have a great weekend.Terri Stegmillerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12937147195403484110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28398542.post-3866058443672463692016-04-24T14:27:00.001-05:002016-04-24T14:27:40.951-05:00Screen Printed Textiles<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I have been overwhelmed, frustrated, and thrilled all at the same time recently. It's been crazy busy around here and I feel like I am hitting brick walls when it comes to trying to meet my own personal deadlines. I'm happy to say that those walls are crumbling down and I'm getting closer. Closer to what, you ask? Getting my hand printed fabrics ready and listed in my Etsy shop. In fact, I'm hoping to get the first bundles listed by this coming Friday? The key word there is "hoping". </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I am loving learning all about the screen printing process. There are so many steps to try and become skilled at within the process, and some of those steps have been very challenging. Early on when I decided to pursue this idea of creating my own line of printed fabrics, I was planning to use my Thermofax screens exclusively. Well it didn't take me very long to figure out that the scale I really wanted to do things in was not ideal for Thermofax screens. So I proceeded to learn how to print textiles with a typical screen printing process. One where you create your design on the screen with the photo emulsion process. While I have gotten better with the skills and am able to produce some usable homemade screens, I have also purchased some screens from an online source where they will prepare the screens with my image.</div>

The photos in this post show a bit of what I've been doing for the past few weeks. It's been an exciting new journey for me and I can't wait to become even more skilled with the techniques of screen printing. It seems that every day brings new challenges that I need to figure out and hopefully master.Terri Stegmillerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12937147195403484110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28398542.post-49575787440101590812016-03-20T11:09:00.000-05:002016-03-20T11:09:00.899-05:00Lots of Piecing<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While I've been getting things in order for my screen printing work space and waiting on a few items that I ordered to make printing sessions easier, I have been doing some quilt construction. My pile of quilts that need to be quilted is growing like crazy. Why is it so much easier to start a new quilt than to finish one that is already started?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7WWmIYEPm0Q/Vu7H1ggZVvI/AAAAAAAATCM/j5VaEF9aMzgfelPU34-kjLQbWjeiTIO1w/s1600/DSC_2072.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7WWmIYEPm0Q/Vu7H1ggZVvI/AAAAAAAATCM/j5VaEF9aMzgfelPU34-kjLQbWjeiTIO1w/s640/DSC_2072.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The quilt above is made with Alison Glass fabric. I used both Handcrafted and Handcrafted 2 fabrics and the block is called Flowering Snowball. I found the block in my EQ program, but I ended up altering it slightly. . . so I guess it should be called Altered Flowering Snowball?<br />
<br />

<br />
The block above is called Tallahassee and I found it at <a href="http://www.quilterscache.com/">www.quilterscache.com</a>. Lots of great blocks at that site. I didn't following directions when making the block, however. I decided to change up the orientation of the block parts and came up with what you see above.<br />

<br />
I'm really loving how the spinning stars quilt (above) is looking. This was a free pattern by Anna Maria Horner. I did alter the pattern though. In the original pattern the finished block size is 18". I wanted a smaller block and I also wanted to construct it with the paper piecing method. So I resized it and made paper piecing templates. My block size is 14". I don't know how big this quilt will end up, I'll just keep making blocks until I don't want to anymore or I run out of fabric.Terri Stegmillerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12937147195403484110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28398542.post-75280395571643264482016-03-10T11:50:00.000-06:002016-03-10T11:50:47.730-06:00Screen Printing and Dyeing, Oh My!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've been busy. Very busy. I had planned on having some screen printed fabrics in my Etsy shop by now, but I've had a few hiccups along the way which has caused a slight delay. I'm hoping by the end of March, crossing my fingers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I've gotten some fabrics printed, in the two designs above, but not as much as I wanted to get done before I found there were some issues I needed to deal with before moving forward. These two designs are called Rings Around and Dashing.<br />
<br />
So I'm wondering, and would love your input, what would you prefer when shopping for my screen printed fabrics....your choice of printed design on your choice of fabric color or do you like to buy fat quarter bundles with mix and match printed designs and fabric colors? Thank you for any and all input!Terri Stegmillerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12937147195403484110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28398542.post-18565870849778427522016-02-11T16:57:00.002-06:002016-02-11T16:57:57.838-06:00Making Quilts<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've been working on some quilts lately and having fun at it too. I recently came across the block in this first quilt on Instagram. Instagram user @alittlegressica shared how she made this block and then several quilters on Instagram participated in a quilt along. If you are an Instagram user, look under the hashtag #insideadditionquiltalong to see lots of variations of this quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My Inside Addition quilt top is finished, the blocks finish at 8" and I made mine 56" x 64". It now goes onto my pile of "to be quilted" tops. Yikes, I need to get busy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LvnMRU6t7DM/Vr0OT1IbnrI/AAAAAAAAS3I/kxRnZrqyfyU/s1600/DSC_1830.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="500" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LvnMRU6t7DM/Vr0OT1IbnrI/AAAAAAAAS3I/kxRnZrqyfyU/s640/DSC_1830.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The next quilt top will finish at 20" square and become a pillow cover. I joined an online pillow cover swap and this is what I am making for the partner assigned to me. It's been many years since I've taken part in a swap and I thought it would be fun to try again.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-W0kLD8gabiM/Vr0OT-djK2I/AAAAAAAAS3M/qmp6AvzKgGQ/s1600/DSC_1833.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-W0kLD8gabiM/Vr0OT-djK2I/AAAAAAAAS3M/qmp6AvzKgGQ/s640/DSC_1833.jpg" width="618" /></a></div>
<br />
The block in this quilt is from the pattern A Wild Ride by Jen Kingwell, which I purchased recently (by the way I love love love all of Jen Kingwell's patterns). I needed my block to be a different size and I wanted to paper piece it, so I created it in Electric Quilt and printed out the papers for piecing. Quilting on this one is next. I'm not sure yet what I will do, maybe an allover simple design.Terri Stegmillerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12937147195403484110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28398542.post-32094568346124303872016-02-01T11:20:00.000-06:002016-02-01T11:20:45.687-06:00My Own Fabric Line<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-align: left;">For a long while now I've had a dream to see my designs on fabric for quilting/sewing. I recently had an eye opening jolt after seeing a designer from overseas doing something that I can actually do (but never thought of)...and she is very successful at it. That designer is Karen Lewis and she has a wonderful line of screen printed designs that she has created. You can see her site </span><a href="http://www.karenlewistextiles.com/" style="text-align: left;" target="_blank">here</a><span style="text-align: left;">.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So over the past few weeks I've been researching and planning and executing my plans. I've created several screens using my Thermofax machine and here are my first couple of printing tests. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These fabrics are hand dyed by me and while I will offer screened designs on hand dyed fabrics, I also plan to use commercial solid fabrics with my designs screened on them as well.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Below is my new set up for screen printing larger fabric pieces. My husband helped me create a padded board and t-square so that I can easily set up for repeat printing. I used it for the first time this morning and am thrilled with how well it worked.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
My studio space has become too small for me over the years as I've developed my likes in what I love doing. It gets a bit crowded in the room with this screen printing table set up...so I take it down and set it up when I need it. Another goal/plan I have is to move part of my sewing space into an unused room in my house (living room). We never ever use that room, so I plan to sell some of my furniture and turn it into my sewing space and then use my current space for my printing/painting work. It's a plan that may take a few months or more to actually execute, but I look forward to it.<br />

<br />
I am very excited to start creating more screen printed fabrics and hope to have them available soon in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/TerriStegmillerArt" target="_blank">my Etsy shop</a>.<br />
<br />
Another fabric item I plan to add to my Etsy shop are my hand dyed batiks. I'm having so much fun playing with this technique. I recently learned how to use batik wax, which is different from soy wax. I much prefer the batik wax as I found the soy wax much too slimy and hard to remove the final traces of it.<br />

Guess what day is fast approaching? About one month from now it will be Valentine's Day. I was just looking through my stencils, wondering how many had hearts on them. I found six. It's a new year. Can you believe it? It seems like just yesterday we were entering the new millennium. I don't know about you, but time is just flying by.<br />
<br />
Over the past few days I've been playing with fabric batik'ing. Here are three results that I'm happy with. I am going to be playing more with batiks in the near future. Just waiting for my supplies to show up. I ran out of batik wax so I had to get some ordered.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oIcp6RmI1iA/VobuOYcz9JI/AAAAAAAASuo/OWxRFwZZw-U/s1600/DSC_1760.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="434" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oIcp6RmI1iA/VobuOYcz9JI/AAAAAAAASuo/OWxRFwZZw-U/s640/DSC_1760.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A couple weeks ago, I shared a quilt top that I had pieced, using all hand dyed fabrics. I've been thinking about how I will quilt this top and I'm sort of thinking about doing some hand quilting with these threads. The perle cotton was actually dyed with these fabrics so the colors are a match. I've seen some wonderful examples of big stitch quilting with heavier threads on the Internet and I like the look of it. So....we shall see about this. The good thing is that this quilt top isn't overly large, so hand quilting shouldn't take me forever.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6YDDNR9UR68/VobuUVEU9BI/AAAAAAAASu0/hz6NNUNtodM/s1600/DSC_1752.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="450" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6YDDNR9UR68/VobuUVEU9BI/AAAAAAAASu0/hz6NNUNtodM/s640/DSC_1752.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And here is a quilt top that I'm currently working on. I found the central improv blocks recently in a storage container. I had pieced them some time ago...I have to say at least two or even three years ago....maybe. Well I decided it is time to create something with these so I'm slowly building the quilt top.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QpQoJbICgMo/VobuUfP4mbI/AAAAAAAASuw/TbNMpQP9Zm0/s1600/DSC_1755.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QpQoJbICgMo/VobuUfP4mbI/AAAAAAAASuw/TbNMpQP9Zm0/s640/DSC_1755.jpg" width="614" /></a></div>
<br />
I plan to add more to this top but need some time to think about the next step. I have lots of scraps and pieces from other projects that coordinate with these colors so I am hoping to use those somehow. I have an idea floating in my head but just need to work it out.Terri Stegmillerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12937147195403484110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28398542.post-32987654560434481942015-12-30T07:46:00.000-06:002015-12-30T07:46:04.013-06:00Quilting with Stencils<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today, over on the StencilGirl Talk blog, I am sharing how I use stencils with free motion quilting. I invite you to check out the post....<a href="http://www.stencilgirltalk.com/2015/12/stencils-quilting-with-stencilgirl.html" target="_blank">Click Here</a>.</div>

Usually the days are overcast and the lighting inside isn't great for photography. So I decided the next day there was minimal wind I would hang my finished quilt top on the clothesline and snap a shot. Today was that day. Even though it is overcast the lighting outside is so much better. <br />
<br />

<br />
I finished my scrappy trip around the world quilt a couple of weeks ago. I have the backing fabric ready and now I just need to get it basted and quilted. I plan to quilt this one on my Bernina with simple straight lines (I think).<br />
<br />
Below are the ornaments I made for the grandkids this year. Yes, it is a photo I took indoors and I'm not thrilled with it. But it records what I made this year and so it will do.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DC4fFfQyB8o/Vnw7qpyneOI/AAAAAAAASn4/csomNGJjZtg/s1600/Christmas2015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DC4fFfQyB8o/Vnw7qpyneOI/AAAAAAAASn4/csomNGJjZtg/s640/Christmas2015.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
These ornaments are something I purchased a few years ago. They are interactive...you pull the string down near the legs and the legs and arms go up and down. They were unfinished wood when I bought them so all I had to do was paint and varnish.Terri Stegmillerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12937147195403484110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28398542.post-45614265764511626092015-12-18T11:06:00.000-06:002015-12-18T11:06:48.220-06:00Love/Hate SnowWell we are finally getting some snow that seems to be hanging around and piling up. It was only after the second snowfall recently that I remembered that I'm supposed to have a new LOVE relationship with it. Last year I discovered I liked snow dyeing. And then I remembered that last year my snow dyeing days were numbered, because by the time I realized I was enjoying it, then we didn't get any more snow. By the end of that time period last year I had decided to try snow dyeing a white long-sleeved t-shirt. I had it all ready to go, with oodles of rubber bands wound onto it for some resist design and then......no more snow.<br />
<br />
So I found my rubber banded shirt that waited for me to dye it and went to work. Here is what I got. I love it! At first, when it was still soaking in a tub of water to remove the excess dye, I thought I hated it. I was seeing murky muddy colors and thought the colors didn't turn out on the shirt. After the final rinsing and drying I found I was completely wrong.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1nmNbbYM7To/VnQ7NYvGCxI/AAAAAAAASm4/OaZJ5VjBUtk/s1600/DSC_1720.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1nmNbbYM7To/VnQ7NYvGCxI/AAAAAAAASm4/OaZJ5VjBUtk/s640/DSC_1720.jpg" width="638" /></a></div>
<br />
I used three colors of dye on the shirt....Red Violet, Watermelon, and Aqua.<br />
<br />
This past week I found myself wanting to create a quilt with only solid colored fabrics. In the past I have dyed many yards of fabric and over time they have sat on the shelf and not been used. So I pulled some and made this quilt top.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4ep38Na5_7o/VnQ7v-Tv16I/AAAAAAAASnA/Plxp43li400/s1600/DSC_1718.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4ep38Na5_7o/VnQ7v-Tv16I/AAAAAAAASnA/Plxp43li400/s640/DSC_1718.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<br />
It is about 40 x 52" in its unquilted state. While I like the results and have always enjoyed solid fabric quilts that others make, I have learned something about myself....I much prefer to make projects with fabrics that have pattern/design on them. Silly huh?Terri Stegmillerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12937147195403484110noreply@blogger.com
