Stencil Mania Maniac - Part 4

Welcome to Part 4 of Stencil Mania!

One technique that is totally fun is to create a white on white effect. White on white fabrics add lovely interest to quilting and sewing projects. The Branches stencil was used in this example and it came out so gorgeous. I simply applied white paint with my foam roller through the stencil.

And then of course I had to go and add some color to it. Just so you could see what that would look like. I used some Tumble Dye spray to add the color here.

Some of the stencils just beg to be stitched around. So that's what I did in this little quilt example. Here I used the Secret Garden stencil, which is very reminiscent to quilted feather designs that you see in quilting.

Here's a close up of the free motion stitching around the stenciled shapes.

And another technique I tried with the stencils is reverse applique.  Here I stenciled a row of leaves from the Leaf Specimens stencil.  I used green paint and applied it to a green/blue hand dyed fabric.  I layered another fabric underneath and hand stitched a running stitch around the leaves. Next I carefully trimmed away some of the top fabric so the fabric layer below would show through.

I also used some of the color-layered fabric that I shared in yesterday's post.  It is the orangey one that you see.  I used the Aztec Tiles stencil to create that fabric, along with Tumble Dye spray on color.

Here's a detail shot of the leaves.

Remember, you can see all the stencils that Joggles.com is now offering by clicking here.
