Art Quilt Commission Part 1

In August I was contacted by someone asking if I'd be interested in creating an art quilt wall hanging.

I'll be honest with you, the only other time I had done an art quilt commission was for a relative of my husband's and in the end, I wish I hadn't.  The experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Who'd a thunk?  And a relative even!

I've done other work on request like handbags/totes, etc.  All those have gone smoothly.  But to get a request for an art quilt, my main love, woo hoo!  But I was very nervous, remembering that other bad experience.

After corresponding with the potential client and getting all the facts about the potential quilt and providing all the facts about the contract/price etc., agreeing on this, talking about that...all the i's were dotted and all the t's were crossed.

The client provided me with their own rough drawings/ideas of what they had in mind.  The quilt would be hanging in their young daughter's bedroom.  I sketched out three ideas for them, based on the description of their vision (a landscape with flowers and butterflies).  See Sketch 1, 2 and 3.

The client requested a revision of Sketch 3 and that became Sketch 4.

In the end they chose Sketch 3.  Stay tuned for Part 2.
