House on a Hill

House on a Hill... That's my working title for this new quilt I'm making.  It may just end up sticking and being the official title in the end.  I started this on Saturday and was enjoying myself so much that I forgot to take a photo of the first step.

The first step in this project was I placed white fabric over the top of my drawing, done on newsprint paper with black marker, and then traced the design with a black Shiva Artist's PaintStik.  I let the Paintstik dry for 24 hours and then heat set it with the iron.

Then I applied Tumble Dyes in various colors and sprayed it through various stencils.  If you aren't familiar with Tumble Dyes, see the post I wrote over on The Sketchbook Challenge blog recently. After that I added some stamped images with textile paints.

Once the Tumbles Dyes were dry, which happens very quickly, I heat set the fabric again.  Then I layered it into a quilt sandwich and free-motion quilted the entire thing.

And now I'm adding more surface color with Caran d' Ache Neocolor II crayons.  I just finished putting the background color in.
