Making Progress

I have shown all the following projects recently and I thought I'd update you on where I'm at with them. First up is a small fabric collage quilt that I am happy to say is done and now appearing in my etsy shop.

Next is a fabric collage table runner that I'm still working on. I'm at the hand embroidery stage. This is a commission piece.

And the remaining photos are my paintings. I've still got a couple coats of varnish to apply, but they are basically done. The first one shown is named She Dreams With the Sun and the one with the orange background is named She Talks With Tulips.

Lots of WIP

Yesterday and today I found some time to work on my paintings. The face on the left is done, I think. I still have a few little things to add to the one on the right. Then all that's left is the remaining elements on the canvas, which will be flowers, I think. I have been known to change my mind. But since the face on the left already has a flower shape over the cheek, I guess I'll definitely be putting flowers there.

Next is a work in progress. Yep, you guessed it, another Garden Party collage.

And here I am putting together the pieces for another fabric collage. This one is going to be a table runner. What you see here is about half of it.

We Have Winners

Ok here we go. I've written down all the names of the wonderful people who dropped by to comment and enter the drawing.

All the names were put in the hat, er um, flower pot.

And here they are:

I pulled 2Worlds out of the pot first, so 2Worlds will get first pick of the felted handbags. And Cindy, you'll get the other. I will need both of you to email me your address. Thanks everyone for playing and your visits/comments are so special to me.

All Done

I've finished my landscapes. This is the last week of the online class with Karyn Gartel, aka Altered Diva. I truly enjoyed this class and I'm glad I took it. Karyn is a fun teacher and she also teaches other classes. She's offering some great ones for the summer.

It's been a busy spring with all the online classes I took plus doing my own creative work and conducting some of my own classes. I'm ready for a break. I have to say, though, that I really enjoy taking online classes as it gives me a little peek into the artsy life of an artist I admire and I get to see how they create the art I enjoy.

Today I also finished my water-themed 12x12 quilt that will be revealed on June 1 along with the other Twelve by Twelve quilts.

Other accomplishments for the week: Planting flower seeds in the garden, drawing up the plans for a commission quilt (table runner), and some more painting on the two paintings I showed a couple posts or so ago.

Happy Weekend!

Newest Collage

garden party collage fabric fiber art quilt
The latest in the Garden Party Collage series is complete. I had fun with this one, well probably because the cat figure is one of my favorites. This piece has a lot more hand stitching on it. I hand stitched the eyes too.

It's available in my etsy shop.

In the Making

Here's what I've been working on. Both of these are unfinished at the moment, but I'm hoping to get the fabric collage done by tonight. Gosh, the faces I'm painting look rather ghostly in appearance in this photo, but actually they have more color in real life.

Tee hee! Just noticed how the colors in these two photos are very coordinated. I must be on an orange and green kick in my art making. I think I must have caught it from Jackie.

Anniversary Drawing

It's time for a give away. See these two felted handbags??? Well this is what I'm giving away. Yes, two winners! Leave a comment on this post and answer this question: What is your favorite finish on a sealed piece of art...matte, satin, or glossy?

Another Landscape Update

mixed media landscape painting acrylic paper canvas
Here's the latest progress on the landscapes. This week we built houses. Don't they look cute? They even have house numbers. There is one more lesson to go with this class. I think we'll probably be adding some finishing touches, finish the sides of the canvas, and I know I want to add some flower centers to my flowers yet. I think the photo may be a little dark, please adjust your screens accordingly. Stay tuned for the final viewing next week.

Next photo is my 2007 gourd crop. I left all of these outside on the vines all winter long and this morning we had an absolutely gorgeous morning so I did some gardening and harvested them. I have absolutely no idea where I'm going to store these. I already have some that I grew in previous years and they are all hanging in netted bags from the rafters in Bob's shop. I'm out of netted bags. Pout!

And here is a shot of my lovely tulips that are enjoying the beautiful sun-shiny day.

And, HEY!, did you realize that this month marks my two year anniversary as a world-wide bloggy person? Gosh, it seems like not very long ago that I ventured out into the blog world. Stay tuned, as I plan to have a give away opportunity for all you wonderful visitors that come by and cheer up my days. I'll announce the give away on Saturday, I think.

And Another Painting

I finished another painting. I'm definitely having fun with these. I wrote another verse on this one but I can't claim it as a haiku since the syllable count isn't right. Oh well! I named this painting Little Bluebird.

I took the pictures before I applied the varnish/sealer coat to the painted canvas, in hopes of having less glare issues when taking the photo. So now I'm busy putting the varnish on.

I have decided I'm going to keep the painting I showed previously for myself, since the colors are so perfect for me. And this one I'll be putting in my etsy store once it's completed.

Painting Completed

I've finished the lessons from Paulette Insall's face painting class. Below, I am showing two straight-on shots, one from the camera and one from the scanner and also a side view of how I finished the sides. At first I wasn't planning on adding some words to the canvas, but yesterday I changed my mind and wrote a haiku. I added the lime green flowers also. I am really liking this piece, especially since it's "my colors". At least they are my colors at the present time. Who knows what tomorrow's colors will be.

Landscape Progress

I planted trees on my landscapes. Oh and down in the lower corner of the daytime scape, I planted some flowers. Two lessons are left for this class. I think we will be doing some building in the next lesson.

New Collage Series

I'm working on a new series of small collage quilts and I've just finished the first three. Two of these are almost the same. I'm having so much fun with these and there are more to come. These will all be part of a series called Garden Party...thanks to Sue B for helping me with the name. These are available in my etsy shop here.

Carvin' and Stitchin'

Here's a look at a couple of things I've been working on lately. First up is a small fabric collage quilt. I'm finishing up with the hand embroidery and almost ready to finish off the edges.

And here is a stamp I carved. I have wanted to try carving a face for some time and finally just got to it. I'm happy with how it turned out.

Paintings in Progress

Here is the latest progress on the two painting classes I'm taking. First up is step 3 of the mixed media landscape class taught by Karyn Gartel. This week we added color to our hills and defined them with a dark edge.

canvas, landscape painting acrylic mixed media
Next is the progress on the face painting class taught by Paulette Insall. This week we added more shading and highlights and added more layers to the lips to give them dimension. I need to figure out what my girl is looking up at. Any ideas?

And I just added a post over on the Twelve by Twelve blog about my progress on the next theme quilt. The next theme is 'water' and we have until June 1 to get it done.
