Journal Quilt #35

I tell you, I was this close (picture my fingers showing 1/8") to just saying "the heck with this weekly journal quilt stuff already". But I did it and now am glad. Some weeks are so much harder to get this one little, small, 8.5" x 11" piece of something done. And this was one of them. But to tell you the truth, I didn't feel like doing much of anything today at all. I feel so guilty when I have days like these.

In other news, the Fibre&Stitch staff have started a yahoo group for those of you who have subscribed for four issues. This gives the subscribers the opportunity to ask questions about something they've seen in the zine, or show what they have made from a technique in the zine, and much more. I think there is also going to be some contests, with prizes even. If you are a 4-issue subscriber you should have gotten an invitation to join the group, if not, contact any of the staff from the zine and we'll look into it. If you would like to subscribe, visit the Fibre&Stitch website.

Breathe In, Breathe Out

Well it's official....Fibre&Stitch is out! The premiere issue that is. It was a little bit nerve racking yesterday as we were getting everything prepared. The Fibre&Stitch staff has worked hard to provide a quality online publication and we think we have achieved our goal, and we sure hope you all agree. If you'd like more information about Fibre&Stitch, visit the website at www.fibreandstitch.com.

Below are some things that I've been busy with lately:

Yesterday I did some baking. Not much of it was edible however. Although I did bake Bob some cookies, pretty sweet of me huh? I also baked up some shrink plastic charms. Sue and I are cooking up a little project and these will be involved with that.

My nice mailman delivered these to me yesterday. I haven't had any time yet to start reading them, but just looking through them and seeing the pictures, they look very interesting.

This next photo shows a drawing I have hanging on my design wall. My plan is to paint this on the back of a denim jacket. I've never done this before, so I hope it turns out.

And here's a handbag I've started.

And this last photo is of a small bag I made a year or more ago that I had put away and totally forgotten about (sound familiar?). It's perfect for just carrying around a cell phone, and some cash and lipstick. Or I think I will use it for a makeup bag.

Journal Quilt #34 and Great News

Guess what????? I've got some fantastic news. Oh, here's this week's journal quilt. I really threw this one together quickly and it really really shows. I used scraps of fabric and the digital printed image was something that was laying around also. Did I mention I have wonderful news? Please don't look too closely at the quilt as I had strips of fabric that weren't long enough and so the unsewn joins are really showing off badly.

Are you waiting patiently for the great news??? Okay, this is why I didn't spend much time on the above quilt. Because I couldn't even begin to concentrate on it......I'M GOING TO HOUSTON!!!!!! In November! For the big quilt show! My dream come true!

I will be helping in the Mistyfuse booth alongside my best online friend, Sue Bleiweiss. We will even be rooming together! Sue, I don't snore. As if we'll get any sleep. I can't believe that over a year has gone by that we've known each other and we get to meet in person. We are going to PARTY! Ok, maybe not really. But I would love the chance to meet any of you who will be there also. Look for me in the Mistyfuse booth.

WIPs

I've been busy working on several things....all at once. Sound familiar? I haven't posted for a few days and don't really have anything finished to show so I thought I'd show what I'm in the middle of working on.

First up is a birdhouse gourd that I think I've shown before, but am now starting to paint.

Next is a peek at my design wall where there are many projects in progress. Some faces and some painted designs on fabric paper.

And this last photo shows a wall piece that I'm working on for the class I'll be teaching through joggles. Information about the class can be found here. By the way, the piece is shown upside down.

More Kitties

I've put more kitties on more pholders. That "pholder" name seems to be sticking. By the way, for those who are wondering, "pholder" is pronounced "folder". Both of these are available for sale here.

A couple of you were wondering what I plan to do with all my weekly journal quilts. Once the year is over, I should have 52 of these. So I'm thinking I will display one a week throughout the year next year and following years. That way they aren't stuffed away never to be seen again. They are all 8.5" x 11" so would take up too much room on a wall if I were to try and hang them all. Maybe someday, my great, great, great grandchildren will come across them and hopefully enjoy them.

Journal Quilt #33

I actually got done with my journal quilt a little bit early this week...YAY! This one is the same technique as the last two. I'm thinking I need to do something different for next week. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions/requests for me?

Another Pholder

What's a pholder???? Well I dunno. I couldn't think of a creative name for this item. It's a folder, as it folds over and has inside pockets, and it's a holder, as it holds a notepad. And the name "folder-holder" was a bit too long. Okay, I know, pretty dumb.

I've named her Ariana. She's for sale here. Thanks for looking.

Fall Classes at Joggles

Just wanted to let you all know, just in case you missed the joggles newsletter today, that the fall classes have been announced. And WOW, there are a lot of wonderful looking classes too.

Including a class from me...I'm so excited. It's called Daisy Doodles and is scheduled to start on October 24. Here's where you can view all the upcoming classes. And here's a picture of the Daisy Doodles quilt I'll be teaching in my class:

Journal Quilt #32

Well I felt rushed again with this week's journal quilt. But I got it done. I really need to start working on these earlier in the week I guess. I used the same technique this week with the gel glue design. Not too sure if I like this one. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

I made this mini padfolio yesterday. The base is strips of black fabric, then I did some stitching with the machine. The last thing I did was couch down a novelty yarn to add just a teeny bit of color.

I noticed that I haven't been posting as much as I normally do. I suppose that's probably due to getting finished up with issue 1 of Fibre&Stitch. This past week or more, I was pretty busy with it and I'm so happy to say that it is ready! Yay! With time to spare too. This premier issue will be released to subscribers on August 29. If you'd like a peek at what's in this issue, click this link, it will show you the table of contents. And if you haven't subscribed, and are thinking about it, we are offering an incentive. For all the people who purchase a one year subscription before the premier issue is released on the 29th, there is going to be a drawing....click here to read all about it.

Fabric Page for Carol

My August swap partner, Carol, chose a theme of "Just Creamy" for her fabric book. Here is what I have made for Carol. Mostly decorator type fabrics in the background. The circular fabric piece already had the dotted design on it. I stitched that down and added a crocheted focal point. From each point of the crocheted piece I stitched straight out in a star burst type of look. This stitching is very subtle and is almost invisible unless the lighting and angle is right. I added some small pearl beads in the crochet piece. I also created a spiral web of thread in the center area of the crocheted piece, although it's difficult to see in the picture. Hope you enjoy your page Carol.

Kitties

Over the course of the past few days I've been working on these:

cat fabric notepad folder
cat fabric notepad folder
They are a folder that holds a 5" x 8" notepad. The cover cats are hand painted on fabric/paper.

I've put them on my website here if you are interested in buying one.

Journal Quilt #31

Whew! Got down to the wire with this week's journal quilt. I've been a bit busy with other things and needed a quick project for this week. I did a gel glue resist design, colored it with Dye-Na-Flow, then did some hand stitching. Happy Weekend!
